Jean Pierre Gerber, victim of a violent robbery, is still in pain and will undergo surgery, says his wife.

Roshni Gerber said her husband, 68, was still in pain yesterday after he was assaulted on board his yacht, Wendy and Allen, on Sunday night.

He suffered severe facial Injuries and was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object.

Police continued to hunt for a man who carried out the vicious assault.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro has appealed for any information regarding the incident and has asked members of the public to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers on 919.

“He is in some pain from his injuries and also the tube that has been inserted in his side and is being used to drain liquid from his lungs,” she said.

Meanwhile, Fantasy Island developer, Abbas Ali, said street lights had already been erected at that area of the development but were yet to be connected by the Fiji Electricity Authority.

He said he had already paid FEA but the power company wanted an extra $480,000 for payment for a high voltage cable.

“At least if the street lights were on, it would have provided some security to Mr Gerber’s area.”

FEA’s acting CEO Bobby Naimawi said he had seen some correspondences with Mr Ali regarding the supply of power to that part of the development but all payments must be made first before power could be supplied.

“There are a lot of major developments happening in Nadi and all must comply with the criteria set out,” Mr Naimawi said.
