The Oceania 7s Championship will be an eye opener for the Solomon Islands women’s team who will be competing for the first time.

Team captain Alice Barosi said the players are excited to be playing against top teams in the Oceania region.

“Our preparation is good ever since we got into Fiji and we’re really privileged to be here,” Barosi said.

“This is the first time our women would be playing in such a tournament and all I can say is that we are really excited.

“I’ve been playing for two years but playing at this level is something new to me.”

With only two experienced players in the squad, Barosi said they will not be aiming to win but learned from the experience.

“It is very exciting and it is a good  opportunity to be in such a high level tournament like this,” he said.

“We are really new, we are not here to win or lose but to just get experience from the rest of these teams.”
