Telecom Fijiana 7s captain Ana Maria Roqica knows the tough challenge as defending champions of the Oceania 7s which starts tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

Roqica believes the team spirit and bonding between the girls will help them perform to expectation.

“Training has been tough but the girls really put in so much effort,” Roqica said.

“Everyone is in sync with each other and I know this will be a good weekend for us.”

Roqica said the home ground advantage is not only good to build up the interest of females in the sport but also to give some of the parents a chance to watch them play.

“It has been four years now since we last played at home,” she said.

“I know the girls are excited. For some of them, this is the first time for their parents to come and watch them play live.

Defending their Oceania 7s title will not be easy with Australia in the mix.

“Four players in the Australian team were part of the Olympics team,” Roqica said.

“They are a good team but for me seeing our team for the past couple of weeks, I believe in these girls and I know that we will have a good outing.”
