The Tonga men’s and women’s 7s team received their jerseys from the Princess Fanetupouvava’u Tu’ivakano at the Novotel Hotel in Lami yesterday.

Princess Tu’ivakano wished the players all the best in the Oceania 7s Championship which begins today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Princess Tu’ivakano,  who is also the Tonga Women’s Rugby Association patron, said they are grateful  to take part as it would help them develop the sport among females in Tonga.

“We are hoping that with the continuous participation in Oceania competitions such as this, we hope to create awareness and support for women participation in Tonga,”she said.

“We want it to be a sport that women can play and make it big and that is why we are here.

“We want to qualify so that we can progress to the next tournament but we are very grateful for all the support we have received here, especially Oceania Rugby and Fiji Rugby.

The Oceania 7s will start today at 10am at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
