Bula fellow car enthusiasts. It was a great weekend of racing on Sunday.

It was very good to see people coming with families and enjoying the day. We had bouncy castles, snow cones and candy floss and it was great to see the families enjoying this outing.

We hope to continue providing such activities along with racing to all.

I was also very happy that a lot of attention was turned towards 4-cyclinder cars. A lot of good timings were recorded by these vehicles.

For example, Roy Singh did a very good time of 12.157 seconds and therefore came third overall for the day.

FCC vice president, Sandeep Prakash, did his personal best of 12.58 seconds.

Amal Singh did a very good timing of 11.842 seconds and again this was his personal best.

Also Rajnesh Prasad, the sales and marketing manager of Pacific Energy, continues to improve his timing. He recorded his personal best again of 16.752 seconds.

We also got to see nine more new comers. All of them did pretty well especially Krishneil Naicker who had come all the way from Labasa to participate in the race with his car. He won the 17 seconds drag race category.

Looking at Mr Naicker’s enthusiasm, FCC will look at developing and creating awareness of the car club in the Northern Division. Next year we will release more details on our plans for the North.

Also we shall not forget our champion driver Ravin Nath who again had the fastest time on the day winning the overall trophy. He thus reclaimed his status as Fiji’s fastest driver.

With that win, Mr Nath has won the Pacific Energy Shell Lubricants Drags series with still one more race to go with his three wins against one win by Ravi Nair.

Teaching the newcomers

It has been very tough for our executives as we had to educate a total of 24 newcomers to this motor sports.

As I had mentioned in my previous interviews that the Fiji Car Club executives are there to help or to teach the newcomers to drag racing.

I feel it is a big achievement for all executives that we had managed to promote and get new race car drivers who took part in the series.

Also surprise package for the day in the ladies category was Tabua Prasad. Although it was her first time racing, she learnt the art of racing very quickly and won her category beating the last event’s winner Indra Kumar.

Mrs Prasad at no time showed any nervousness or pressure while driving and this is the key to winning a drag race.

Mrs Tabua did promise me that from next year’s season, she will get a more powerful car and beat a lot of male drivers.

Looking overall on the day, it was a very successful event. There were no major issues and we managed to finish the race on time.

Special visit

I take this opportunity to thank the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, Paul Bayly for taking out his time and joining us at the event.

Also the CEO of Pacific Energy SWP, Randall Vallette who was present with his family and was very impressed with the way Fiji Car Club ran this event.

To have Mr Randall and Mr Bayly coming to an event of the Fiji Car Club shows the club has come a long way.

This is just a start for us as far as organising big events of this nature is concerned. We do promise members that next season will be a lot bigger and better.
