Blues Whip Hapless Suva

Lautoka handed Suva their worst defeat of the Vodafone Premier League season with a 9-1 humiliation at Govind Park last night.

In a one-sided affair, the sugar city side tore Suva’s young brigade to shreds making Suva look like a side team playing in the big league for the first time.

Even Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy had enough time to sit in the grandstand and chat with his officials.

WHAT HAPPENED

Veteran Valerio Nawatu and Cyrus Singh each netted a goal in the first half and the signs were ominous that the capital city side were in for a drubbing.

Missing most of their senior players, the younger players were at the mercy of the more polished Lautoka side as they headed for the break with Lautoka leading 2-0.

HALFTIME

Nawatu grabbed another goal in the second spell along with Singh,  Josefa Dugucagi grabbing three and one each to Leisari Qalica and goalkeeper Senirusi Bokini smashing home a penalty.

Suva’s lone goal came from a sizzler by Poasa Bainivalu from 40 metres out that caught Bokini offguard.

COMMENTS:

Suva coach Ravindra Singh was a disappointed man with most of his senior players not turning up for training.

“The senior players let us down and I was left with the younger players.”

“But I am building them up for next year.”

Lautoka coach Kamal Sami said his players played according to plan and was happy with the win.

“Suva was let down by their senior players and we capitalised on that.”
