Dreketi spoilt the party for Ba when they handed the Vodafone Premier League leaders a 2-1 defeat at Govind Park, Ba, last night.

The Fiji Football Association had brought the trophy and the prizemoney but had to take it back because of the major upset loss of 2016.

Ba looked lost in midfield with the absence of Malakai Tiwa and their play was a total difference to their previous matches.

Dreketi on the other hand proved more aggressive and spoilt Ba’s play on many occasions.

What Happened: Setareki Rokowasa took the visitors into the lead when he latched on to a loose ball and beat Ba’s goalkeeper Josaia Ratu.

Ba equalised 20 minutes later when Samuela Kautoga headed in cross from a free-kick by Avinesh Swamy for both teams to go into the break tied at 1-1.

Halftime: Ba 1-1 Dreketi

Ba tried in the second half with Saula Waqa and Kautoga spearheading the attacks but the Dreketi defence always seemed to be at the right spot to deny the home side.

Dreketi coach Johan Leewai was on his feet for the major part of the game guiding his young team around the field.

Dreketi’s winner came from Apisai Sesewa in the 56th minute when a cross was misjudged by Ratu and it feel to the boots of the diminutive striker to place at the corner of the net to give his side the 2-1 victory.

Comments: Ba coach Imdaad Ali said they missed the services of Tiwa but took nothing away from Dreketi.

“Anything can happen in soccer and this was Dreketi’s day.”

Deketi manager Luke Nasaroa said the win was historic as they had never beaten Ba on their home ground.

“We are really happy with the win and look forward to the next season.”
