One of the global networking multipurpose liner services company, Swire Shipping is set to open its regional office in Suva.

This now means that this shipping line will invest permanently in Fiji and no longer deal with its Fijian clients via agency as it did previously but directly.

The Line Manager- Pacific Islands, Swire Shipping, Jason Perry, said this was after the company upped its shipping services to Fiji with an additional new vessel for the North Asia route.

The office is expected to open within next six months.

Mr Perry arrived from Australia to attend the Swire Shipping evening cocktail at Tanoa Waterfront in Lautoka, with clients, agencies and others.

He said he was here not only to announce the new developments in the company but also to thank the previous agency Pacific Agencies, which handled their clients.

“And this is an opportune time to announce some exciting new things that are happening,” he said.

“We have got our own independent services from Australia coming to Suva and Lautoka every 16 days. We are adding more capacity on to our service from Southeast Asia and we are enhancing the services from North Asia,” Mr Perry stated.

He said the company was adding a new liner in addition to increase the frequency from North Asia.

“At the moment we have two ships providing services from North Asia which comes once a month so we are putting three ships in to that service so adding a vessel, which allows us to come every 21 days.”

The voyage for the first ship already began and it was enroute Busan, South Korea.

Mr Perry said: “The next ship will be 21 days behind that and there are three newly-built economically-friendly Swire Shipping owned vessels.”

He added all these services and enhancements supported the company’s commitment to Fiji.

Swire Shipping is the brand name of all liner shipping services provided by China Navigation Company. It is headquartered in Singapore and has offices in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, India and London.

It deals with multipurpose shipping of cargos from all over the world to Fiji and other countries.
