Tears flowed freely for single mother, Menani Ledua, as she received her certificate on Friday during a graduation ceremony at the Novotel in Nadi.

Ms Ledua, who hails from Keteira, Moala, in Lau was among the 123 Fiji sugarcane industry workers who attained Australian-Pacific Technical College certificates after successfully completing courses under the European Union (EU) funded Training Support to the Fiji Sugarcane Industry Project.

Ms Ledua works for the sugar tribunal as a personal assistant and has spent more than 20 years in the sugar industry.

She graduated with a Certificate IV in project management practice and frontline management.

“It’s a big achievement for me to balance work and as a mother raising a daughter single-handedly was tough, but an enjoyable experience and very emotional for me,” she said.

“Nothing is impossible not even your age because education has no limits.”

She dedicated her achievement to her only daughter, Fane Ledua, a Year Nine student at Jasper Williams High School.

Sere Namusu, 44, of Muana Village, Nakelo, in Tailevu said she had sacrifice her family time to study. She is married and has two boys.

“I would like to thank God for giving me the strength and the knowledge because it has been a long time than I came to do a course like this with a lot of assignments involve,” she said.

“I feel proud and I have achieved something great.

“I thank my employer and my family for the much needed support and what I have gained through this course has helped me in my work.”

Ms Namusu works as an industrial nurse at FSC in Lautoka and has over 14 years of work experience. She graduated with a Certificate IV in project management practice.
