Fire Will Not Scuttle My Son’s Wedding Plan: Mum

A tearful Rajini Raj says her son’s wedding will go ahead despite a fire which destroyed their house in Nadi on Thursday.

Mrs Raj of Malakua, Nadi, said her son arrived at Nadi International Airport yesterday unaware of the fire.

He found out when he arrived at the scene.

Mrs Raj, who said it was the first time she had seen a house fire, said her son’s big day would still take place.

“We had only put the last paint on the house when the fire destroyed it on Thursday,” she added.

Mrs Raj also lamented the loss of their newly purchased furniture and appliances in preparation for the son’s wedding.

“We were all very busy preparing for his wedding. It’s is just so unfortunate to have had such tragedy at a time when we were all in a mood of joy and celebration.”

She said she could only save her daughter-in-law’s wedding saree and jewellery.

“I only knew that I had to save that, otherwise we would have nothing left for the wedding. We lost our clothes and now our family had decided to help us get through the wedding.

“My husband and I are blessed with their support.”

The fire destroyed their house and two other flats at about 2am on Thursday.

Police spokesperson  Ana Naisoro has confirmed the incident. She said investigations continue.
