Niraj Mani had no idea that singing moments in the bathroom would one day win him some recognition.

On Saturday, it was a proud moment for Mr Mani when he was presented with the Most Popular Artist Award during the Season 3 Sur Sangharsh (Hunt for the Singing Sensations) grand finale at the Vodafone Arena.

The 22-year-old said: “I am happy to win the Most Popular Artist Award because it was a people’s choice award.

“I was only a bathroom singer and I knew nothing about music, but I am happy that people loved my voice.

“When I first entered the Sur Sangharsh (Hunt for the Singing Sensations), it was my dream to win the Most Popular Artist Award. Winning the competition was never my intention.”

The third year Fiji National University student said winning the award was a big achievement. He won $750 in prize money.

“I am so thankful to Sur Sangharsh (Hunt for the Singing Sensations) organizer, Nilesh Kumar, for coming up with this platform where youths can showcase their singing talent,” the civil engineering student said.

“I am also thankful to their other contestants and organisers for their help and support.”

Mr Mani said he was inspired by favourite Bollywood singer, Mohit Chauhan, because he always sang songs that touched people’s hearts.

“I knew nothing about music but by taking part in the Season 3 Sur Sangharsh (Hunt for the Singing Sensations), I now know the meaning and importance of music in our life,” he said.

Mr Mani was born in Tavua, but lives with his family in Suva. He and five other competitors battled on stage at the Vodafone Arena.
