For 29-year-old Riteshwar Nand, winning the Pastry Chef of the Year 2016 at the Moffat Salon Culinaire 2016 was all about hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

The Ba born chef who has worked for Radisson Blu Resort for the past eight years had to move from his home town for better employment opportunities in Nadi.

He first worked at the Morris Hedstrom bakery while balancing culinary school at the Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji in 2005 and 2006.

“One of the main challenges that I faced was balancing work and school at the same time so that was really hard,” said Mr Nand.

In 2007, he joined Radisson Blu Resort and he hasn’t looked back since.

Mr Nand said he has taken part in other culinary competitions over the years.

But this year, he finally took out top honours in the Pastry division and attributes his win on his experience.

Mr Nand also includes his wife and son, his family, his pastry mentors Claire and Brad in his success.

He said they have helped him in his career and also all the staff of Radisson Blu Resort.

“You need to work as a team. It is very important and without it you can’t be successful,” he added.
