Fire Damages Two Homes In Suva

A mother of two watched helplessly as her two-bedroom corrugated-iron home in Tomanu Road, Nadera was engulfed in flames yesterday afternoon.

Swetha Nand, 25, was at home with her two-year-old daughter and seven-month-old son when the fire started which quickly spread to her neighbour’s three-bedroom home.

“I was feeding my son in the room when I got a shock, I heard an explosion.

“I quickly grabbed my son and daughter and we ran outside,” an emotional Ms Nand said.

“By the time we reached outside, we could see flames coming out of the house.”

Ms Nand, still reeling from shock, considered herself lucky that they did not get hurt.

“My husband was at work as he was doing overtime.

“I immediately called the Fire Authority,” she said.

When the Fiji Sun team arrived at the scene, firefighters were putting out the fire which had already burned the two houses.
