Singh Wins Korean Language Competition

Ezmintha Revleena Singh from Jai Narayan College in Suva won the first prize for the second Korean Speaking Competition.
The competition was organised by the Korean Embassy and held at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Miss Singh said that she struggled to learn the new language because it was so different from what she was used to, Hindi and English.
She found out about the competition from her Korean Master from a Korean school she had joined last year.
“I started learning by listening to music, watching Korean dramas and so I picked up the language from there.
“And I learnt like that for about three years before joining the Korean school last year,” she said.
She said her Korean master had inspired her to join and if it was not for him, she would not have been aware about the competition.
Miss Singh said she received a lot of support from her parents.
The Korean Embassy believes that this event would provide a momentum to raise the awareness and understanding of the Korean language.
“The competition could act as a catalyst for more students to learn Korean language and as a bridge to expanding bilateral exchanges between Fiji and Korea,” said the Ambassador of Korea to Fiji, Seong-in Kim.
In the overall competition, Bernadette Jeminah Jeong placed second while Lionel Rakai won third place.
