Sudhakar Commends SODELPA Leader’s Submissions

SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka was yesterday commended for his submissions before the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights.
The former Prime Minister, made submissions on the Adoption Bill 2016 and Public Order Amendment Bill 2016.
Chairperson, Ashneel Sudhakar said the submissions were thorough and highly commended by the Committee.
He said they provided recommendations on each provision which would be of assistance when they scrutinise the Bills.
Mr Sudhakar said compared to other submissions, Mr Rabuka’s was more clearly provided.
He said, not only had Rabuka given recommendations, but also alternatives.
Mr Rabuka said the party recommended that the new Adoption Law would undergo a period of public awareness before it comes into effect.
He said consultation on the Bill needed to be carried out so that people were fully aware of it and contributed.
Mr Rabuka urged that consultations were also undertaken in all legislative drafting and Government reform programmes.
Mr Rabuka said the party also recommended a one-year period of public and community awareness before the Act came into force.
