Suspended Doctor Ordered To Pay Court Costs

Suspended doctor Litiana Browne was ordered by the Suva High Court to pay $2000 costs, after her application to stay an order was refused.

Browne made this application after the Fiji Medical and Dental Tribunal revoked her licence to practice medicine and suspended her general registration for 10 years.

The judgment was made after the Tribunal found that Browne had committed an unprofessional conduct, in the course of providing medical care and treatment to a Shanta Wati Krishna (deceased).

The deceased was first examined by Browne on April 19, 2012, at the Suva Private Hospital for post-menopausal bleeding.

After examination and consultation by Brown, the deceased underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy without the benefit of endometrial sampling to confirm whether her conditions were cancer-related.

The deceased was subsequently transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where she received medical attention until she died on July 4, 2012.

The matter was called before Judge Justice Lyone Seneviratne.
