Reijieli Fifita, 19, took out the 2016 sportswoman award during the Votualevu College prizegiving in Nadi yesterday.

It was a pleasant surprise for the Year 12 student when she received the award from chief guest Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

“I never thought to win this award as I did not expect to come so soon,” Fifita said.

The Motukana, Ono-I-Lau native won silver medal during the Coca-Cola Games in high jump.

“I hope to continue with this event in future and represent Fiji in athletics.”

Fitita has been actively involved in sports since primary schools and was more active in high school.

She was part of the team at Gospel High School in 2012 – 2013 before she joined Votualevu College in 2014.

She has maternal links to Dravo, Bau,  Tailevu.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Paula Waqadau took out the sportsman award.

The sprinter was instrumental in the school bronze medal win in the 4 x 100m relay during the Cokes Games.

He also ran in the 100m, and 200m.
