The Fiji SUN Lomanikoro Lions are looking forward to the first ever Wakanisila Youth Sports Day which starts on Saturday at Kalabu Fijian School.

The competition will feature two teams from Lomanikoro, Delana, Nasoqo, Naibuluvatu and they will take part in volleyball, netball and touch rugby.

“This is the first that something like this is happening and everyone in the community is really excited,”Lomanikoro Lions captain Losana Volavola said.

“We are looking forward to bringing all the youths together, especially those who don’t go to school and just roam around the neighbourhood.

“This is a way for them to get involved in something that will make them feel appreciated and valued.

“Sports really bring people together and that is what will be showcased on Saturday.”

Volavola said the team has been training in preparation for the youth games as they want to be the first team to win it.

“This is the first youth sports day that is being organised and we want to come out winners,” she said.

“Majority of the girls who are taking part are fairly new to the sport but I trust that on game day they will step up.

The Youth Sports Day will begin at 9am.
