Music maestro Ete in talks with Damodar to have own ‘Moana’ premier here

Renowned music maestro, Igelese Ete, was in Hollywood recently and met-up with superstar actor, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Mr Ete who looked after soundtracks in the latest Disney musical animation, Moana, was on the show’s red carpet ‘World Premiere’ on Hollywood Boulevard on Monday 14, rubbing shoulders with some Hollywood celebrities.

He was responsible for convincing Disney to invest in the authentic sounds of the Pacific, hence their presence in Fiji during the historical Fiji 7s Olympic gold medal win.

Apart from watching the Moana premier at the Historical El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, one of the highlights he mentioned was catching up with his fellow Samoan ‘uso’ (brother) easily the most recognised face in Hollywood entertainment – ‘The Rock’.

He also met his mum ‘Ata’, his girlfriend Lauren and eldest daughter Simone. He also gifted ‘The Rock’ on behalf of Fiji Airways a specially-made Fiji Rugby 7s jersey with ‘The Rock’ 1 plastered on the back.

“The Rock was humbled to have received the Fijian rugby jersey, and in light of the recent shambles where Fiji should have won a World Rugby award, it was a great feeling for Dwayne to endorse our World Champion Olympic gold medallists,” said Mr Ete.

“I was proud to represent our best kept secret, and another world class Gold Medallist, the ‘pride of the pacific- Pasifika Voices from the University of the South Pacific and Oceania Centre for Arts Culture & Pacific Studies Suva Fiji,” he said emotionally.

Mr Ete said hearing our very own voices with some of the world’s best creative minds and performing artists was just a humbling and proud moment for him to represent the 20 amazing and talented artists of the Pasifika Voices.

He said: “The Moana recording choir of Fiji, USP, and Solomon Islands including the whole Oceania Family in Hollywood makes the movie beautiful and empowering, celebrating the strength of our people.

“Our Pacific navigational prowess of our pacific ancestors is so wonderful that we can inspire, empower and uplift not only our pacific peoples with our pacific arts but also the world.”

Mr Ete is also organising with Damodar our very own premiere with a Masi Moana theme VIP invitation only on the November 23 at Damodar City.

Hollywood’s New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison (Shortland Street/ Green Lantern/ Star Wars), who plays Moana’s father, will attend to celebrate the involvement of our very own ‘Pride of the Pacific’ and our very own ‘Pasifika Voices’.

The directors are Ron Clements and John Musker.

The cast include Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Alan Tudyk, Nicole Scherzinger, Jemaine Clement, Temuera Morrison and Rachel House.
