Head Teacher Proud Of Naivicula District Achievements

The head teacher of Naivicula District School, Pravind Kumar, stands proud today knowing that his students and teachers have done well despite the odds.
The school in Tailevu was one of many that was severely damaged in February when Tropical Cyclone Winston hit.
Since then, the students and teachers have been working and studying under tents.
“The journey with the students so far has been exciting and our teachers always put their best efforts to guide and help the students despite not having proper classrooms,” Mr Kumar said.
“I am proud of the students. Despite studying in tents, these students have gained best of their knowledge and scored high marks in their examinations.”
The district school caters for 300 students.
Today students in year 1, 3, 4 and 5 are still using tents while students in year 2, 6, 7 and 8 have moved to newly constructed building.
Mr Kumar said Government had granted them $12,000 for a new assembly area for students.
“I thank the Government for the contribution and help they have provided to us to rebuild the classrooms,” he said.
School manager Ananaisa Tabu said: “Since TC Winston hit Fiji, our school was damaged badly and we did not have proper classrooms for our children.
“But with the help and funds from the Government, we have opened our new building with an assembly hall for the students to study in while we try and build the classrooms outside for other students.”
