The Fiji Car Club is currently in the process of planning the biggest car drag race of the year.

Fiji Car Club vice president Sandeep Prakash said usually the last event of the year was the most awaited and anticipated event.

“This last race will be the biggest race that we’ll have and the last race for the year that will boost the series for Pacific Energy,” Prakash said.

He also said the club was expecting a good turnout at the event.

“The race has been named as the Pacific Energy Shell Lubricant Drag Race and we are expecting a good number,” he said.

“The race has been happening on monthly bases; we’ve been having 700 plus crowd on every race.

“We have constantly been having 40 plus participants for the past races but for the last event of the year we are expecting around 52 plus participants.”

Mr Prakash said the club was looking at organising the event at the 18th of next month.

“We usually have it in Nanuku in Navua which normally starts at 8 in the morning and finish off at around 6pm.

“We are yet to receive confirmation for the venue which is usually held in Nanuku Aerodome at the Pacific Harbour.”

When asked about the possibility of having both the car show and the drag race on the same day, Mr Prakash said that was the initial plan.

“There is a possibility of planning ourselves well and if the sponsors agree to our proposals then we might have a drag race and a show on the same day.”

He also highlighted that if the venue was not available, the club would then organise a car show instead.

“If there is no drag race scheduled for the 18th we’ll opt for a car show which will be held in Suva.”

The winners of the race can walk away with hampers, which would be provided by the sponsors.
