Mereseini Vuniwaqa says Government wants Fijian women to become more effective as leaders.

The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation says they also want women to break the barriers that restrict their participation in economic activities and decision making.

Mrs Vuniwaqa was speaking to the 11 TFL Miss Fiji Pageant contestants at the Traditional Attire  and Research Topic night at the Miss Fiji Pageant at Sigatoka last night.

“We want women to be recognised for their invaluable contributions to the society and as the nation as a whole,” she said.

“Become partners in Nation building, as well as advocates of issues that affect them and fellow Fijians,”Ms Vuniwaqa said.

She said: “Pageants like these allow young women to gain confidence and communication skills.”

On the second night of judging  Miss  Suva Anne Dunn won the Research Topic of the night while Miss Nausori  Shalin Shimaran Singh won the Traditional attire  for the night.
