A number of people who have been accused of corruption have cast a shadow over the 365 hardworking, honest employees who are operating what is among the finest operations in Fiji.

These remarks were made yesterday by the Land Transport Authority board chairperson, Vijay Maharaj, during a press conference at the LTA headquarters in Nasinu.

He said LTA was working closely with the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) to address the corruption involving LTA employees.

“Negative actions of certain LTA officers are affecting the perception of the public towards LTA,” Mr Maharaj said.

“FICAC has recently charged some people allegedly involved in the corruption scam and I am glad they have been charged because it is an attitude of people who are willing to take a ‘short-cut’ by paying money to certain officers to get their work done quicker.”

He said people who allegedly gave money were just as guilty as the people who allegedly accepted the money.

“I believe both the person involved in corruption services to be taken in task and charged,” Mr Maharaj said.

Mr Maharaj has also stated that LTA had received more than 80 applications from locals and international applicants for the LTA chief executive officer post.

“We have received so many good and worthy applications which are hard to choose from to lead LTA,” Mr Maharaj said.

The new CEO will be appointed by January next year.
