Buksh: Parents Helped Me. Now I Help Them

Vunimoli Islamiya College Dux, Sazid Buksh, says he is determined to help his parents after what they done for him.
Sazid was all smiles on Friday as he walked up to the podium to receive the highest award during the school’s prizegiving ceremony.
While the Dux award was one of the pinnacles of his achievements so far, the Year 13 student said he would continue to work towards his dream.
“After this I plan to attend the University of the South Pacific (USP) with the goal to one day become a lecturer there,” Sazid said.
The son of a cane-cutter in Korotari outside Labasa town, Sazid would tend to their vegetable garden and sell vegetables to supplement their family income.
“I see what my parents sacrifice for me and I am determined to give my best so that I can take care of them later in life,” he said.
Proud father, Dilshad Buksh, could not hide his excitement as he watched his eldest child take out six awards.
“I am happy and proud of my son. He is very hardworking and always gives his best in everything he does,” Mr Buksh said.
Mum Jai Mul Nisha was overwhelmed with Sazid’s performance.
“He wakes up early in morning to study and as soon as he gets home in the evenings. I am very pleased seeing how much effort he puts in his studies everyday and it has paid off.”
Sazid received the Dux award, leadership award and subject prizes in mathematics, economics and computer studies.
