Competitions in class was the biggest challenge for Josaia Vuetimacuata, but despite that he walked away with the Dux award during the Montfort Boys Town graduation yesterday.

The motor vehicle mechanic student said the past three years was an exciting yet challenging one.

“I could not believe what I have achieved today, but I thank the Lord for it,” he said.

“I made a lot of sacrifices and I find it really difficult to be away from home.”

Mr Vuetimacuata recalled he sometimes faced financial problems, but that failed to stop him from achieving the best.

“I thank the Lord for the knowledge and strength and it’s a good thing to depend in the Lord for everything,” he said. Mr Vuetimacuata is the youngest in the family of three.

His dad, Joeli Vunisa, 52, said: “My son deserves this award. He is a very humble child and very hardworking, he really deserved it.

“I am a taxi driver and there were few financial issues that we faced, but we never lost hope and I always believe in my son.”

For the past three years, the family travels to Montfort from their home in Waila, Nausori every Sunday to visit Vuetimacuata.
