Dux: This Is For My Grandmother

The Dux of Rarawai FSC Primary School, Adi Nanise Naliva, has dedicated her award to her late grandmother on Friday.
The Year 8 student from Sorokoba Village in Ba said her grandmother, Tanny Wallace, was always supportive of her education.
Adi Nanise, 12, is also the headgirl of the school.
She was surprised when she was named the Dux.
“I was not expecting this dux award, I was expecting it to go to head boy but now that they have given it to me, I’m very happy,” Adi Nanise said.
“I’m really honoured to receive this award.”
She will be attending Adi Cakobau School next year.
The school’s final year students were emotional during the prizegiving ceremony at the school.
It was their last day of school.
Fiji Sun senior sports reporter Anasilini Ratuva, a former student, was one of two special guests. The other special guest was former student Aisake Bonaveidogo, who is a bank manager at the Fiji Development Bank, Ba branch.
Ms Ratuva reminded the students of the importance of dedication, commitment and sacrifice towards education.
“For example the Fijian 7s team won gold medal in Rio because of their dedication, commitment, sacrifice towards their training that won them the gold medal,” Ms Ratuva said.
“They did not only sacrifice for themselves or for their families, but for the whole country. And that night at the Deodoro Stadium the whole Oceania region was supporting the team.”
Ms Ratuva was there in Rio de Janeiro to cover the Olympics for the Fiji Sun.
Students were also reminded by Ms Ratuva of the importance of appreciating the support from home.
“Always learn to appreciate and thank the support of your parents, they struggle everyday to put food on the table, buy you a nice pair of shoes, they wash your uniforms, prepare your lunch every morning so learn to thank them and appreciate their support towards you,” she said.
