Red Diamond Crowned Vutia 7s Champs

Army’s Red Diamond rugby 7s team scooped Vutia District School’s Old Scholars 7s title at the village ground yesterday.
Although making their debut in the tournament, Red Diamond edged out Danudanu 24-17 in a tough final.
Speaking to SUNsports, Red Diamond coach Matayavusa Lea said, this was a stepping stone for the team.
“I was expecting us to win this tournament because we had one whole week of training,” he said.
“We started from scratch from the beginning of the tournament until now but it was a turning stone for the boys.
“We have been preparing for around three weeks and we are building up for next week’s Coral Coast qualification round,” he said.
Danudanu captain Isikeli Gavidi congratulated his team mates for reaching the final.
“We expected to win but unfortunately where we have reached we know that there are few more things that we have accomplished in order improve.
“I think we overreacted but we managed to give them a good game in the end.
“We have been playing at club level so for this tournament and where we have reached we would like to thank our supporters. We are one of the major clubs in Rewa so next year we will definitely participate and challenge the winners again,” he said.
