Ilisapeci Qoli of Suva Two could not hold back her tears as she received her gold medal in the Under-14 shot put in the Central Division FMF Chow Games at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

Taking part for the first time in the Chow Games, the 14-year-old threw 9.70 metres.

“I feel really happy to win gold and I honestly did not think that I would win this medal with all the other tough competitors I was up against,” Qoli said.

“This was my first time taking part in the Chow Games and taking shot put, I was really nervous at first but after my first attempt I felt relaxed.

“I cannot describe how I am feeling but I know that I want to take up shot put again and maybe in the Coca-Cola Games. I didn’t like athletics before but doing this field event has changed my way of thinking and now I enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, Vilimoni Susunikoro also won his first gold medal after throwing 51.03m in the U12 soft ball throw. The 11-year-old Naloa, Serua native said he wants to represent Fiji one day.

Viliame Gaunidali of Tailevu South came in second 50.20m while Nem Kurucake threw 49.72m to be in third spot.
