Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) were crowned the new women’s champions of the 9th Bula FM Marist Volleyball tournament at the Vodafone Arena, Suva yesterday.

WAF won three straight sets against Army beating them 25-23, 25-15 and 25-15 respectively. This is the first time for the WAF women’s team to take part in the Marist tournament.

Head coach Sitiveni Uluimoala could not hold back his excitement as he said though the team have been together for a week, it was team work that got them through the toughest games.

“It feels great to have won and this is the first time that WAF has come to this level and I am very happy,” Uluimoala said.

“When forming the team we were encouraged by WAF workers and also by the men’s team. We managed to win our games and the tournament and that was due to team work. We worked together and bonded as a team and I take my hat off to the girls for their hard work during training and through the competition.”

Uluimoala said Army was a good team and gave them good competition. He said they enjoyed the competition and are looking forward to defending the title next year.

“We are looking forward to coming back next year, I think once the girls have tasted this sort of competition, they want to play it again.” Meanwhile, BLK Marist won the men’s category beating Rebels in the final.
