Thirteen-year-old Mariana Keresi has vowed to study hard, get a job and provide the best for her family.

The Year 8 student of Wainiyavu Primary School in Namosi made the commitment yesterday after receiving the Dux of the Year award during the school’s prizegiving ceremony.

From Wainiyavu Village in the district of Veinuqa, Mariana said her achievement came from her mother’s encouragement and sacrifices.

“My parents have always supported me in every way they could, but my mother is my inspiration because she has taught and helped me the most.

“They have always helped me with my academic work and made sure that I studied hard for my exams,” Mariana said.

She shared that her aim is to study hard so that she can to provide the best for her family in the future.

“I want to work hard and make sure that I provide everything for my family when I grow up.

“Just like my parents took care of me and my necessities for school, I want to always stand by them to take care of their needs and wants. For that, I have to study hard and work my way through the journey of secondary school,” Mariana said.

She will be join Namosi Secondary School next year.

“It won’t be easy to go to that school which is far from my village, but I will for my parents,” Mariana said.
