BAF Seeks Cooperation From Farmers On Movement Of Cattle

Biosecurity Authority of Fiji seeks cooperation from farmers and the public on movement of cattle and calves.
This is to limit the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis from infected cattle herd to healthy cattle and calves.
BAF is seeking cooperation from all farmers to completely eradicate the disease in Fiji and work closely with current stakeholders.
The Emergency Declaration on Bovine Tuberculosis strictly prohibits movement of all calves and cattle within Fiji without prior authorization from BAF for the movement.
People intending to move cattle and calves within Fiji can get an application form from the BAF website or from the nearest BAF office or Ministry of Agriculture.
The public can also call on animal disease surveillance code 5997 for assistance or information to Ministry of Agriculture.
Pursuant to section 79(3) and 94 of the Biosecurity Promulgation 2008, any person who violates any direction made pursuant to this Declaration or commits an offence.
The person will be liable to the penalties prescribed under the Biosecurity Promulgation 2008.
Members of the public intending to move cattle/calves from farm to abattoir are to do the following:
Fill the application form and lodge it to the nearest BAF office or Ministry of Agriculture office
Biosecurity officers will provide Movement Certificate to move the cattle from farm to abattoir
The farmer/middle man should have the Movement Certificate issued by BAF for the movement of cattle from farm to abattoir
Surrender the Movement Certificate to Biosecurity officer at abattoir or to the abattoir officer
For movements of cattle and calves from farms to farms or from farms to outer islands within Fiji the following procedures need to be followed:
Fill the application form and submit to nearest Biosecurity office with recent Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) free test results from the Ministry of Agriculture
Bisecurity officers will provide Clearance Certificate to move the cattle from farms to Farms or from Farms to Outer Islands
Surrender the clearance certificate issued by BAF to the nearest Biosecurity office after the movement of cattle from farm to farm or from farm to outer island
Members of the public can also call on animal disease surveillance code 5997 for further assistance or information call Ministry of Agriculture.
