“I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years but for the last 12 years I have won numerous tournaments,” Hussain said.
“I enjoy playing in my hometown because I get to meet my friends and see young golfers taking the field. Golf is a sport that anyone can play and it promotes good health. I just hope more youngsters will choose to play golf.
Labasa Golf Club secretary Yuva Rajan said they are grateful to A. Hussain and Company Limited for sponsoring the one-day tournament.
“There were 30 golfers that took part. Dinesh Lingam a doctor at Taveuni Hospital was the overall net and tournament runner-up having a gross score of 153.
“We were happy to have Hussain as his presence on the field inspired our young golfers. We are going to have our final tournament next month. It will be a 36- hole golf tournament and will be staged from December 10 to 11 at the club.”
Rajan said the event will be known as the Sun Insurance Classic.
