It is important to be strict for children’s education, says parent Shirley Kumar.

Ms Kumar was one of the many proud parents of Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School in Navua. Her son, Rajiv Adhitiya Kumar, 10, in Year 4 got first prize, while her daughter, Alisha Edrina Kumar, 6, in Year One received the best attendance award during the school’s prizegiving day yesterday.

Mrs Kumar said as a parent she felt education was important from an early age.

“It is very important for us parents to be strict to our children when it comes to their education and future betterment, she said.

She urged other parents to make timetables at home for their children to follow when they return from school so that they have some time for everything.

“I have a timetable at home, which my children have to follow and cannot exceed the allocated timeframe,” she said.

“Because of a parent’s contribution and dedication to their children’s education and academic works, it makes a huge difference in their marks and their future overall.”
