An aspiring lawyer, Caitlin Morgan, 13, proudly received the Dux award at the Suva Primary School’s prizegiving Ceremony on Tuesday at the Civic Centre in Suva.

“I feel happy and privileged to have received this award and it was all through the support of my parents and teachers,” Caitlin said.

“My parents were very happy and even if I did not receive an award they said they would still be happy.”

Unlike the rest, she said she did not like studying every day.

“I would study one or two weeks before the exam and if I want to study then I study but I do not study every day,” she said.

She does not grow up in a strict family but enjoys being independent and having self-control over leisure activities.

She was placed third in her class last year and was determined to win the award for her grandmother who was a breast-cancer survivor.

The Minister for Employment Opportunities, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Jone Usamate, was chief guest at the event.

He emphasised the importance of education, drawing comparisons between the value of an ‘imagination’ and ‘education’.

“When I was the Minister of Health few months ago, I always talked about non-communicable diseases…diseases that comes to you because you make the wrong choices,” he said.

He says that children should be given the right food for them to perform well in school and not be fed noodles or junk.

He also says parents should always encourage their children with positivity.

“Make your children believe in themselves, the positive mindset always goes back home,” he said.
