Extra curriculum activities also helped him achieved the Dux award.

It was a proud moment for Year Eight student, Devang Rathod, as he took top honours yesterday.

The Nehru Memorial Primary School student was named Dux at the school’s prizegiving ceremony.

“All my hard work has finally paid off,” Devang said.

He said one of the reasons he achieved the award was because he normally took part in extra curriculum activities.

He had been getting awards since Year One and attributes his achievement to his parents and older sister.

Devang will be attending Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School next year and aspires to be an Aeronautic Engineer.

Chief guest at the ceremony was Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, who said prizes were a reflection of the great work students did this year.

“It is a show of the time and effort your teachers have invested in you,” Ms Vuniwaqa said.

She encouraged the students to strive for excellence and applauded the parents and guardians for the love and support towards their children’s education.
