Work hard to have a better future, says Labasa Primary School Dux, Laisani Tamani.

The eldest of three children, Laisani is determined to set an example for her two young siblings.

“Being the eldest, I have an important role to play in being a role model for my two younger siblings,” she said.

“I am trying to set the example that hard work does pay and without self discipline, we cannot achieve our goals.”

The 13-year-old Vurevure, Taveuni, lass said her parents have been her source of inspiration and pillar of strength during challenging times.

“I am so blessed to have supportive parents who are always there for me. They see that I get what I need for school so I am fully equipped to learn,” she said.

“Winning this award came with a lot of sacrifices. For instance I do not get to play as much as I want in the afternoons, waking up at 3am to study to mention a few.

“I am a little sad that I will be leaving the gates of the school which has moulded me and shaped me for the past eight years to what I am today. I am more happy that I will be starting high school next year, a step closer to my dream.”

Her father, Manasa Tamani, was beaming with pride as he accompanied his eldest child to receive the award.

“This is one of the proudest moments for my family, I am so proud,” Mr Tamani said.
