The Republic of Military Forces women team defended their title after beating Police 3-2 during the ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl volleball competition at the National Netball Centre yesterday.

Police won the first two sets 25-18 and 28-25 but RFMF came back strongly winning the three sets 25-17, 26-24 and 15-9 respectively.

RFMF coach Viliame Waqavuka said their outing in the Bula FM Marist Volleyball tournament helped.

“We have been training for the past weeks to prepare for this tournament and the hard yards put in by the girls really paid off,” Waqavuka said.

“We took the initiative to build up the team during the Marist tournament last week and we managed to reach the finals.

“That allowed me to gauge the squad and sort out strategies on how to beat Police and we did it

“Competition is building up every year, we have players being recruited in both forces.

“We did not expect the Police team to win the first two sets but we regrouped and managed to win.

“I would like to thank all the RFMF families for their support.”

Veteran Police Wives beat RFMF Wives 2-0 while RFMF secured a 2-0 win over Police in the Open category. Service Army lost to Service Police 2-0 while in the Veterans, Police beat Army 2-0.
