A man was sentenced to eight years in jail by the High Court in Labasa this week for unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

Akuila Kuboutawa, who appeared before Justice Achala Wengappuli, had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard that the accused was taken in by Police during a raid on March 21, last year.

Justice Wengappuli said one of the aggravating factors was the lack of remorse shown by the accused.

Kuboutawa will have to serve six years and six months before he is eligible parole. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
