Fiji has the best rebate system, and with Moana premiering this could lead to other opportunities for the country.

This was highlighted by our proud Attorney- General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the Fiji premier of the Walt Disney movie Moana at Damodar Event Cinemas in Suva on Wednesday night.

“We give 47 per cent rebate of whatever you spend in production in Fiji, so it is very attractive,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“We hope this will lead to other opportunities for us.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Government was very supportive of this.

“We believe the strength of any nation is very much manifested through its ability to show its culture, its arts, literature and writing in poetry,” he said.

He also acknowledged the work of the local talents who made the movie possible.

“Thanks to Igelese Ete- director PASIFIKA Voices and people from USP for showcasing your talent.

“We look forward to you doing more of such international events.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also thanked Temuera Morrison (voice of Moana’s father) for the contribution.

“We hope that you will become an ambassador for us. To tell the film industry outside Fiji what potential we have not just in terms of location but also of the wonderful talent we have as seen in this movie.”

The premiere was well-attended by over 500 invited guests, corporate sponsors, movie lovers and members of the local film and entertainment industry.

About the movie

The animation Moana is a story of an adventurous Polynesian teenage princess who sails out on a daring mission to save her people.

During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder.

Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds.

Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers her own identity.

Feedback after movie

Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum added it was a very good animation movie and it also shows what goes into a movie production.
