Former school teacher Aborosio Biligi bowed in prayer at his Rakiraki home after hearing of the Dux award presented to his namesake and youngest son.

Aborosi, 17, also snatched the Year 13 subject prize in Physics, Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination 2015 and Best All Rounder awards during the St John’s College prizegiving in Cawaci, Ovalau.

His wheelchair bound father was naturally elated.

His mother, Miliakere Biligi, who is in the United States of America called her husband on Tuesday to relay the good news.

All the Biligi siblings (five boys and four girls) attended St John’s College.

Mr Biligi was adamant that his youngest son also attend the school.

Even after Tropical Cyclone Winston struck the island, he told his son to continue his studies at the school.

This weekend, young Aborosio will meet his dad and family to celebrate his achievements in Rakiraki.

Like any young teenager, Aborosio has many dreams.

At one time he wanted to be the person sitting behind the cockpit of an aeroplane.

But he has allowed himself other options like becoming an aircraft engineer.

Aborosio’s inspiration comes from the daily celebration of mass at the school.

“I follow the school programme and I study hard, but one of the things that kept me going was celebrating mass every day.”

Aborosio’s role model is St Johns College principal, Father Ekuasi Manu.

“He has taught me a lot of things during my education in Cawaci.”

To young people, his advice is: “First believe in yourself that you can do whatever you set your mind to do in life. Believe and place your trust in God.

“If you can conceive it then you can achieve it.”
