Dux attributes achievement to God, parents and relatives.

Miriam Kenny was lost for words when she was named Dux of Lami High School on Wednesday.

“It takes a whole village to raise a child,” Ms Kenny said.

The Year 13 student was emotional when she talked about the support she had from her parents, grandmother, aunts and uncles.

She thanked God for her achievement saying if I wasn’t for Him she wouldn’t be where she is now.

Ms Kenny joined Lami High School from Ratu Kadavulevu during the second term of school this year after she became sickly.

Her mum Vani  Kotobalavu, said: “She has beaten all odds to be here and I’m so proud of her.”

She will pursue her studies at the University of the South Pacific next year aspiring to be a journalist.

“I’d like to travel the world and I love socialising,” the beaming teenager said.

Her advice to other students was to never lose hope and always pursue the dreams they want.

“Everything is possible with God.”

General manager, Pacific Cement Limited, Siowane Tuidola was chief guest at the ceremony.

The school has 248 students from year 9-13.
