$3.8M Morris Hedstrom Supermarket open in Labasa, Shopping Plus Family Time

The eagerly awaited $3.8 million Morris Hedstrom (MH) Supermarket opened at Jaduram Street in Labasa yesterday.
Carpenters Group Fiji director retail marketing and Morris Hedstrom general manager Kunaseelan Sabaratnam said they were honoured to have this opening done in Labasa.
“In this two floor building we have five departments, the supermarket, Daltron, Homemaker, bakery/ food court and liquor,” he said.
“Since the time our building was destroyed by fire sometimes in 2009, many people had been asking us when we will have everything under one roof.”
Mr Sabaratnam said they wanted an ideal location of their supermarket near the market.
“When we got the opportunity to rent out this building owned by Bashir Khan we couldn’t wait,” he added.
“We have employed 80 staff and they are all from Labasa.
“It will be opened for seven days in a week.”
According to Mr Sabaratnam, the setup of the building is similar to the one in Suva, where people can come for shopping and to entertain their family.
“The current Homemaker and supermarket located in two different locations in Labasa Town will continue its operation for few months.”
“In the next few weeks the supermarket will be perfectly prepared as we are waiting to get lights from overseas to be installed,” he said.
“People of Labasa should shop with us as we are offering new things, especially what we offer in Suva.”
Chief Guest at the opening, Special Administrator of Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Vijay Chand, said this investment shows the faith and trust MH has in the economy of Labasa and its people.
