Our Boxers Face Nauru Today

Boxing fans who want to catch a glimpse of national amateur boxing star Winston Hill has got a chance to do that today. Welterweight boxer Hill leads the national amateur boxing team in their Test clash against Nauru at the FMF Gym in Suva.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Fiji Amateur Boxing Association president Manasa Baravilala said Hill would be the last Fijian boxer to take the ring.
“I’ve made a request for that,” he said.
Hill represented the country at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and did well during the preliminaries. In the last Test clash against Papua New Guinea, Hill outpointed Simon Midlner.
Also expected to make his second international fight is promising 56kg boxer Nathan Singh. The hard-hitting Toorak-based boxer came in as a last minute replacement against John Ogogo of PNG and managed to beat him on a split points decision.
Joining young Singh is 75kg middleweight boxer Josefa Ravudi Jnr who is going to add more firepower in the national team’s arsenal.
Baravilala has called on boxing fans to be at the FMF Gym to watch the Test match.
“There will be six international bouts and five preliminaries in the programme.”
He said the Fijian boxers have been training under head coach Napoleon Taumoepeau. The boxing programme starts at 5pm. Tickets are $10 ringside, $5 balcony and school children are for free.
