The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has praised the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort for investing in its people.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and various close associates of the property were briefed by the various heads of departments on their unique strategy in dealing with guests.

“The wonderful thing about Outrigger is that it believes in investment in our people and I think sometimes many organisations forget that the organisation is only as good as the people it has,” he said.

He made the remarks during the resort Christmas corporate cocktail party last night.

He said most of the managers at the resort were able to go out with the concurrence and blessing of the management to nurture the skill set that  existed in people but had not been recognised yet.

“That is the wonderful thing about what Outrigger has done,” he said.

He praised and thanked the resort for its initiative in the building of a new kindergarten and a library at Conua District School in Kavanagasau in Nadroga.

A group of returnees and the resort donated funds for the project.

“Thank you for that generous donation. The wonderful thing about it is that it helps develop the relationship between the guests and Fiji.”

He said this was a very tangible project they could touch and feel and have a sense of affinity with.

He said hopefully they would keep on coming back.

He also thanked the Outrigger Enterprises Group for its contribution to the resort.

“We are a developing country and the Government is very much focussed on developing the infrastructure,” he said.

He commended the community work Outrigger is doing and would be doing.

He thanked Peter Hopgood, the general manager of Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort.

Meanwhile, Mr Hopgood handed a cheque of $6687.48 to the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.

Mr Hopgood said guests had donated the money through a collection box in the last nine months.

This is in addition to the previous $20,000 from the Coral Coast chapter of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association.
