Grudge Clash To Set Nadi Alight

Expect fireworks in Saturday’s Fiji super middleweight title fight between Opeti Tagi and arch rival Abhay Chand at Prince Charles Park, Nadi. Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Kiran Boxing promoter Ben Krishna said the 12-round fight is going to be a cracker.
In their earlier clash, Tagi beat Chand on a controversial split points decision to claim the country’s middleweight title. Chand strongly disputed the decision claiming that he had decked Tagi twice.
“I’m calling on boxing fans to come and watch this explosive affair,” Krishna said.
“This is going to be the biggest title fight for 2016. I’ve put on the fight so people can watch a quality fight as both boxers have great amateur records before turning pro.
“Whoever wins the fight is going to fight an overseas opponent in my next promotion.”
In their last fights, Chand handed Franco Frazier his first loss with a third round technical knockout win while Tagi stopped Kunal Nair in the fourth round.
Krishna said he has action packed fights as the undercards which feature promising boxers like Ronald Nair, Saimoni Ratu, Siliveni Nawai, Gerald Aisake and Tomasi Gaunavou.
“All the boxers are ready to fight, as a new promoter I’ve made sure to pay them well and look after them as well.”
Krishna who is also a former boxer said he wants to continue promoting on a monthly basis.
“People have been waiting for these fights and no one was putting them on. For example Junior Kuar Singh has been waiting for six years and was never given a chance until now. This time they are going to fight, whether they are old or new boxers, I will give them equal chance as well as any other boxer in Fiji.”
The programme’s main sponsor is Parwati Catering of Sheraton Fiji and the official weigh-in is set for Friday at 2pm at Food Hall Supermarket in Nadi.
