The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) is introducing the Crew Declaration Card for all incoming crews to assist in further enhancing border security in Fiji.

This would also prevent illegal entry of plant and plant products, animal and animal products, biological specimens, used equipment, shoes and soil  which could introduce exotic pests and diseases into Fiji.

The Crew Declaration Card is a mandatory requirement under section 30 of the Biosecurity Promulgation 2008.

This must be filled by all inbound crew members on aircrafts and vessels and submitted to a Biosecurity Officer upon arrival at the first port of entry in Fiji during inward clearances.

The Crew Declaration Card is required to be filled by all incoming crew, Masters and officers on board any conveyances (sea vessel or aircraft) and handed to Biosecurity Officers at the respective air and sea ports.

All crew on board any vessel or aircraft must disclose all required particulars relating to the crew members and their accompanying baggage, if any.

However, the declaration need not specify clothing worn on the body, articles visibly attached or connected to the body and suitcases or other visible containers of personal baggage.

All Crew Declaration Cards submitted to Biosecurity Officers will be administered with authorised protocols.

This may, if needed, involve questioning of crew members or any family member mentioned on the Crew Declaration Card and the verification and inspection of luggage.

Pursuant to Biosecurity Promulgation 2008, BAF is mandated to protect Fiji from the entry and spread of exotic animal and plant pests and diseases.

The enforcement of the declaration protocols under section 30 of the Biosecurity Promulgation 2008 is essential to ensuring protection of Fiji’s border security from biosecurity threats.

The Crew Declaration Card allows all inbound crew an opportunity to declare items they intend to disembark with from conveyances and BAF can easily verify and screen them in accordance with declarations.

The Crew Declaration Card will be implemented at all ports of entry in Fiji (seaport and airport) borders from December 15, 2016.
