Liahona 2 Ready For Service

Brighton Holdings Ltd T/A South Island Shipping Services has announced that its second vessel the Liahona 2 acquired earlier this year from South Korea is ready for service.

Operations Manager Ben Cavu says for its maiden voyage on November 29, it will be travelling to Kadavu East.

“The vessel is licensed to carry 310 persons and is equipped with all new Life Saving apparatus fully outfitted in Korea together with brand new firefighting equipment,” he said.

“This includes fire extinguishers, hoses, B/A sets and Fireman suits which were all surveyed and certified in Busan.”

He said the vessel had two spacious accommodations the one below originally designed to cater for 200 passengers.

The new passenger accommodation he adds has a capacity to handle

over 100 persons comfortably but they have kept the passenger numbers down to 300 to allow more room for people to move around.

He said the vessel had seven toilets and shower facilities and also a Galley which offered food and canteen services.

The Liahona 2 was purchased from Jinhae in South Korea by Brighton Holdings limited to service Kadavu on a two trips a week rotation. This was the original route Brighton Holdings Director Mr Ulaiasi Baivatu had planned for his first vessel the Liahona.

Liahona 2 was originally a car ferry.

He said the Liahona 1 had since for the last two and half years been engaged in servicing Lomaiviti and Lower Southern Lau in the Governments Franchise scheme.
