The Commonwealth Secretariat has commended Fiji’s leadership on climate change and assured its full support for Fiji’s Presidency at the 23rd session of the COP2.

This was during at a meeting in London held between Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Commonwealth Secretariat Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland.

Prime Minister Bainimarama outlined Fiji’s priorities for the COP23 Presidency and specific areas where the Commonwealth could back Fiji’s agenda.

He also sought support for Fiji’s plans as co-host of the UN Conference on Oceans to be held in New York in June 2017. The Prime Minister also noted Fiji’s bid for a seat on the Human Rights Council for the 2018-2020 term.

Prime Minister Bainimarama held the meeting in London prior to attending the 50th International Sugar Organisation Council Meeting.

The Prime Minister will then go on to Brussels where he is scheduled to meet with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
