It was a night of talent last night at Albert Park, which came alive to the sound of music as six finalists danced their way during the Nescafe Make Your Move event.

Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, said such events are a celebration of where we are, and where we want to be.

“70 per cent of Fiji’s population is below the age of 40. That means we have a lot of young people in Fiji. That means we have a lot of opportunities in Fiji because young people provide the dynamism that is required for any country.

“So, we value the young people in Fiji and events such as this- dance, art, literature, poetry, film making is always a sign of country maturing.”

And, he said that to be able to showcase such events at a place such as Albert Park, on film, overseas and at international events is what we strive for.

“It is a celebration of who we are, it is a celebration of where we want to go. Fiji is at the intersection of many, many different cultural inputs to create something what is uniquely Fijian,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He thanked Nescafe for creating the opportunity for youth to showcase their talent and hoped for further partnerships in other areas such as Film Fiji’s Kula Awards.

Dance competition winner, Becky Wainui, said: “The competition was really good and the win belongs to God,  also my sister has always been my mentor and role model.”

Ms Wainui walked away with a $3000 cheque.

The winners:

Becky Wainui – winner

Grace Naleba – 1st runner-up

Gayatri Ram – 2nd runner-up
