Fijian Pearls national coach Vicki Wilson was impressed with the level of competition by the six netball teams during the final round of the Digicel Punjas Super League yesterday.

“I was very impressed with the way the Fijian Pearls and the Under- 21 squad members played,” Wilson said.

“Afa Rusivakula in particular was great. Her sister Maliana Rusivakula was also good in the shooting circle and Vaiti Waqatabu was also outstanding in the centre role for Jisoko Plateaus.

“She led her team well ably supported by Episake Kahatoka who was very strong in defence.”

Wilson praised the new winners Western Zeniths who beat Capital Force 46-44 in the final.

“The game was really of high standard and it was great to see both teams have improved from the last time they met in Sigatoka,” Wilson said.

“It was great to watch and I thought defensively, the girls went out hunting for balls and terrific defensive pressure. But it was an awesome second quarter by the Zeniths.

“They had a slow start in the second quarter and then came rolling home to build that lead than the other team were in chase position in the entire second half.”

She said the national side will begin training early next year and will be considering some of the new girls to join the squad.
